How to read this calendar
- Each row is one grant. A bar shows the application window; the diamond at the right edge marks the final deadline.
- Grants with multiple cycles per year (Bridge Award, Faculty RA Grant, Spinoza Award) appear on a single row with multiple bars.
- Faculty applications precede student applications by 1–2 months — September faculty deadlines feed November student RA postings.
- Funding grants (top section) are the priority and shown in bold color; awards and recognition (bottom section) are shown faded.
- For full descriptions, eligibility, and application links, see the SOURCE Opportunities page.
Program purposes — match the student to the right grant
A quick reference for advising conversations.
- Explore Program introduces 1st/2nd-year students to research through a faculty-led 6-week themed workshop (2 hours every Friday, 8–10 students per cohort). Faculty design the curriculum around their discipline — software, soft skills, hard skills needed to do research. The lowest-commitment entry point: ~12 hours total for the student.
- Faculty RA Grant funds paid undergraduate research assistant positions ($16/hr) on faculty-led projects. Students apply to specific posted positions through Handshake. Best fit for 1st–3rd year students who want sustained, structured research experience.
- Bridge Award is the “try research short-term” award — for students new to research who want to test a project commitment within a single semester before going deeper. Renewable up to 3 times if they want to keep going.
- Fellowship is the flagship original-research award. Because the application opens in spring, it’s designed for sophomores and juniors — they apply as rising juniors or rising seniors and run the project the following year. Identify strong sophomore/junior students in late January for February applications.
- CFSA-SOURCE Graduation Recognition is a graduation cord for May graduates who participated in undergraduate research or national fellowships — recognition only, no funding.
